Winning attitudes

posted by Lee McKenzie on 05/09/2008

Shamefully lazy, the last thing I wrote about was bursting with summer excitement, I can now confirm autumn is here (maybe I should present the weather). Firstly I have a cold, a sure sign! Secondly next week I am off to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix which is infinitely more exciting than my cold and signals the end of the European stint of the F1 calendar, and the end of the GP2 season.

Every year I present the GP2 and Winning Attitude Awards. But it is not just any old prize giving, it is in association with the Gonzalo Rodriguez Fund, a wonderful racing driver and person. Tragically ‘Gonchi’ lost his life during a practice session in just his 2nd Champ Car weekend in 1999. But since then his legacy has lived on and the lives of thousands of children in his native Uruguay, and now further afield, have been changed thanks to the efforts of the charity.

The charity has always been a supporter of F3000 and now GP2, rewarding teams, drivers and officials alike for displaying a positive attitude throughout the season. It is a perfect way to remind everyone that it is not only how you achieve things in life, or on a circuit, but also the way in which you achieve them.

It is a pleasure for me to be associated with such a cause and for the drivers too. Many F1 drivers attend the awards in honour of the work the charity does and everything it represents. For more information on the inspirational work, please take a minute to visit the website http://www.gonzalorodriguez.org

Staying on a motorsport theme, this summer I had the pleasure of attending and working at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. If you get the chance then you must go to the Revival meeting where some of the finest vintage cars are raced on the old circuit. Everything looks like a trip back in time, even the surrounding fields are cut with a scythe to get the exact length of grass or crop that would have been there in the post war years. It’s another great website so do check it out for old footage, dates and to see who will be driving - www.goodwood.com

Finally keep looking at MY website as you will see some fantastic new changes coming over the next month which means you will be able to access all the top sports stories here and I will be writing a weekly column just for you!

Thanks for stopping by!
