Two wheels and two weekends of fun
posted by Lee McKenzie on 14/10/2008
I love Superbike and I love Brands Hatch so I have just had the perfect weekend. I used to present the British Superbikes and still follow it, but it is not often that I actually get the time to go. So when I was free to watch the final day and races of the season I jumped at the chance.
The atmosphere was outstanding, the sun was blazing and it was the perfect way to end the BSB season. The great thing about bikes is the accessibility and friendliness of the series. Celebrities can walk around with the fans and no one bothers with each other, they are all there simply to enjoy the show. It was great to see Moto GP rider and former WSB champion James Toseland taking time out of his hectic schedule to come to Brands and even be a guest commentator for the circuit; a true gent and fan of the sport, at all levels.
Then a couple of weekends ago I found myself at the Motocross of Nations at Donington. To be honest I had no idea what to expect and no real idea about what I was going to watch, (a friend works for Team USA so I was given the VIP treatment). Oh my god, these riders are crazy and brave and and very well paid! No wonder there was over 50,000 people watching on a Saturday! I felt very naïve standing in front of packed grandstands.
It was a great event and a lovely day. Thank you Team USA for your hospitality. I must have been the lucky charm - they arrived in the UK and took back all the prizes!
