Bahrain heat and keeping cool with drivers!
posted by Lee McKenzie on 23/04/2009
As you walk through the paddock, the desert heat stifles every move. Today there has been no breeze whatsoever and the heat has been getting to everyone. At least it gives us all the chance to dry out after the bath which was China!
This week in Bahrain, I’ve seen drivers at the swimming pool, going to the massive shopping malls and others generally keeping cool and out of the desert sun. Now though, it is time for things to heat up even more and get back behind the wheel again.
After flying out of China on Monday along with many of the teams and drivers, Tuesday was spent by the poolside with some of the BMW team. After working on nothing but my tan, I thought Wednesday should be a little more productive. I prepared my stats, updated my info book from China and then headed to the drivers’ hotel where David Coulthard was interviewing Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
What a race Sunday in Shanghai threw up! It was fantastic to see Vettel back on the top step of the podium. He is a lovely guy, a great character and thoroughly deserves the victory - as do Red Bull who are one of the nicest teams in the paddock.
But back to Bahrain, I think it pretty safe to say we will not see any rain here this weekend, although look at what happened in Qatar at the Moto GP. Sand storms though are predicted and when they close in then there is no hope for any action. It really is blinding and extremely messy - at least rain dries out, but sand gets everywhere!
There are plenty of teams out there that are hoping for yet another unpredictable race, for some it’s the only hope of getting near the front - Felipe Massa just said as much to me and he was talking about himself!
Plenty of excitement to look forward to, I will update you more over the weekend. As always, thanks for taking the time to stop by.
