Chilly China...

posted by Lee McKenzie on 16/04/2009

After a lovely Easter in Scotland I have finally made it to chilly China and for the third time in a month F1’s race weekend is underway!

After flying back to London on Easter Monday, I had just about enough time to unpack and repack and make my way to my home-from-home, Heathrow! For some reason we ended up flying past Shanghai to Hong Kong and then back up again! It gave me ample time to do a bit of research, work and watch a couple of films. Planning features and preparing interviews can be long and tiring and since I am pretty restless, sitting on a plane is the perfect place for me to do it - with no distractions! Although Robert Pattinson in Twilight was a pretty nice distraction for a couple of hours - and a great film too I should point out!

23 hours after leaving my pad in London, I arrived in my hotel room - tired, choked with cold and desperate for sleep! Woke up today a new person, although still feeling pretty dodgy and sounding a little like Marge Simpson! Today temperatures struggled to get above 13 degrees and the arrival of the BBC, Alpine Stars fleeces were perfectly timed!

All the talk at the track has yet again been about the McLaren ‘lie-gate’ scandal and it has been announced that Ron Dennis has stepped away completely from F1 in a bid to save the team he has worked tirelessly to build over the last 30 years.

With all the politics and a rain-washed event in Malaysia last week, it seems that racing has been little and talk has been plentiful - let’s hope for some exciting action on the circuit to get the sport back on track and talked about in the news for the right reasons.

This week we have Mike Gascoyne in place of Eddie Jordan alongside David Coulthard, with Jake Humphrey at the helm!

The Flavio Briatore interview I mentioned here last month will go out on Saturday before qualifying and I’ll also be doing a McLaren feature to go out the same day as well as all the usual interviews and reports.

We don’t always have time to put out all the interviews that I do so keep an eye on www.bbc.co.uk/f1 as that gets updated all the time with extra material and if you miss the show then you can always watch it on the i-player.

I’ll up date you with more info over the weekend. Thanks for stopping by.
