HEAT, HUMIDITY AND HIGH DRAMA

posted by Lee McKenzie on 07/04/2009

What an amazing couple of weeks. Firstly I must apologise for not updating this more but I don’t think I have ever been so busy! Politics, fairytale victories and finding my feet basically sums up my world since I flew off to Australia for the first race of the season.

I was quite good at updating you all from Oz so lets skip to Malaysia! It is always hot and very humid, an uncomfortable combination, but this year seemed even worse than normal. 90 degrees and 90 per cent humidity creates an interesting in-vision look (think fingers in electric socket).

The McLaren ‘lie-gate’ story dominated the first few days at Sepang and still rumbles on now. In the meantime I travelled for what seemed like hours and hours, and actually was hours and hours, on a bus with BMW to go to a design competition at one of the most amazing Universities I have seen. Put it this way, my Uni did not get F1 drivers popping round to judge my exams or drive a Formula BMW car round the campus. Some of the rising Superbike stars also showed their worth blitzing about, more often on one wheel rather than two!

On Thursday at dusk, to avoid the heat, Jake Humphrey and I decided to cycle round the track. 3.3 miles and a pretty major sweat-on later, we completed the journey and decided we will do this at every circuit, although I am already dreading Eau Rouge at Spa!

From my point of view the weekend went well, I interviewed most of the drivers, made an unwell Fernando Alonso laugh, told Lewis live on air he was 7th not 5th and interviewed Jenson Button so many times that he is probably sick of the sight of me!

I am so pleased for everyone at Brawn GP and for Jenson who deserves his chance after a couple of bloody tricky years.

Next stop is Shanghai in 7 days time. Today though, I am heading to Scotland to have a well-earned break with my family in Scotland.

Just finally, thank you so much for all your good luck emails and comments about the show. I will try and respond to everyone.

Happy Easter.
