BBC LAUNCHES TELEVISUAL FEAST!
posted by Lee McKenzie on 24/02/2009
I have been officially ‘launched’ by the BBC and it was a pretty painless experience!
It is such an exciting time and today’s announcement about the BBC’s coverage is further fuel to the fire. Firstly when I was a little girl sitting at home and I heard the first twangs of Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain starting, I knew it the F1 was coming on. The next time I hear it I will be working for the BBC at a race and that is a very emotional thing.
The package the BBC has put together is truly impressive. The most important thing to know is that you can follow the entire 2009 F1 season, including practice, qualifying and race on BBC TV, Radio, Online, Red Button, Mobile and iPlayer
All 17 races will be live on BBC One and every qualifying session too. Any race or qualifying session that finishes before 10am will have full repeat on terrestrial TV later in the day. And further to this, there will be a one hour evening highlights programme on BBC Three at 7pm.
Other news you might like to know is that the Red Button is a crucial tool in your F1 enjoyment. All on-track sessions will be live, including practice, qualifying and the race. Amongst all that, you will have a choice of three different streams on race day: the main programme with a choice of commentary from BBC F1 and 5 live radio. There will be a split screen comprising main network feed, in-car cameras and a leader board. There will also be rolling highlights incase you missed anything or want to see anything again.
If you can’t get near a television screen then don’t fret - the BBC Sport website will save your day. Here is a long list of things you will find there:
Extensive live coverage of every on-track session to include:
• Multiple live video streaming, which will mirror the video and audio streams available on the Red Button
• An extra high-quality video stream – for the first time you will be able to watch near-televisual quality video of all the action; extending the high quality iPlayer experience to live F1 coverage
• Latest leaderboard
• Live text commentary
• Votes – fans have their say on the big talking points
• Extensive post-race video highlights
In addition the site will include:
• An ‘F1 mole’, a diary-type blog featuring gossip and inside stories from the world’s most secretive sport
• Murray Walker’s video race review following every race of the season
• Regular Murray Walker Q&A
• Interactive circuit guides including commentated laps with associated telemetry and data
• Driver and team guides: including video, biogs and Q&As
• Video and text columns from Martin Brundle and Red Bull driver Mark Webber
As a journalist today was an interesting one, between photo shoots and ME being interviewed, neither of the two are my fortes but it was a really enjoyable day and the buzz building up is tremendous.
All we need to do now is get racing! Thanks for stopping by and I’ll be back with more news soon.
Lee x
